Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, Wetaskiwin. The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statute offences. The ACPS promotes safe communities by vigorously prosecuting cases involving serious and violent crime and working with individuals and organizations in the community to identify and implement improved and alternative approaches to the administration of criminal justice. In addition, the ACPS develops criminal law policy for the province and supports criminal law consultation with other levels of government.
Alberta Justice and Solicitor General is seeking a dynamic senior lawyer to lead our Wetaskiwin Regional Crown Prosecution Office.
As Chief Crown Prosecutor, you will lead and manage the office and conduct serious and complex criminal litigation in the Provincial Court and the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Wetaskiwin. You will have excellent management, leadership, coaching and administrative skills. Reporting to the Executive Director and Chief Crown Prosecutor for Regional Prosecutions, you will use the skills and experience that you have acquired as a senior prosecutor or lawyer to lead the staff in the office. A high standard of professionalism and strong decision-making skills, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team setting is required for this position. You will work with other Chief Crown Prosecutors in Regional Prosecutions and in the ACPS. You will also assist other prosecution offices in Alberta when needed.
With your strong knowledge of federal and provincial statutes, your office will be responsible for all aspects of prosecution including pre-charge consultation, providing advice to police agencies, determining appropriate charges, and conducting trials at all levels of court. In addition, your office will consult with witnesses, defense counsel and other agencies. Using your excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will also prepare written materials including legal arguments, opinions, memoranda and provide advice and assistance to community agencies.
Some travel will be required.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)/Juris Doctor (JD), plus a minimum of four (4 years related criminal law experience. Extensive management experience is also required.
Candidates must be an active member or eligible for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta. Wiretap experience or Part VI agency status in the Criminal Code is an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license for travel to circuit court locations.
